It is observed in the upper abdomen along the medial line above the navel. The symptoms are pain and swelling. It is provoked by straining. Very often the treatment of such gastrointestinal hernias is long and apparently unsuccessfully because they thing it is gastritis, ulcer or bile from similar symptoms. In epigastric hernia the best treatment is hernioplasty with mesh, the so called “tension free” method. It is very important to make sufficient coverage of the hernial defect. This is achieved with a frontal or laparoscopicly (bloodless) access, which we prefer in Tokuda hospital. The ecovery is quick.
